Stop Pitching. Start Listening.

These days, there is a mobile app for everything. While some enhance productivity and advance our professional endeavors, others are enjoyed purely for their entertainment value. Arketians and a few clients sound off on their favorite apps for this summer.

Did any of your favorites make the cut? Check out the list of top apps below:

TripIt: Jet setting this summer? When Ann planned her European getaway, she turned to TripIt. This app takes all of your trip details and creates one itinerary that’s there when and where you need it. Stay up to date with all your travel arrangements and easily share trip plans with others. Bon voyage!

Steak Time: If you consider yourself a grill master – or would like to – then check out this app, recommended by Mike. With a handy grilling timer, hundreds of delicious recipes and helpful how-to videos, you can ensure your summer grilling is always great.

Yelp: If you’re a foodie like Joy, then this is the app for you. Yelp allows you to search and locate nearby bars, restaurants and cafes. Browse reviews and make reservations on OpenTable without even leaving the Yelp app.

Penultimate: This iPad app gives you the fast, tactile gratification of writing on paper, with digital power and flexibility, which is why Micky loves it. Penultimate enables you to take notes, keep sketches and document your next breakthrough idea – wherever your summer travels take you.

BtoB Benchmark Take-Away

The Mobile Marketing Association says there are now more mobile phone subscribers globally than landline subscribers. And J.P. Morgan predicts the market for tablets will be worth $35 billion by the end of 2012.

BtoB marketers must create mobile marketing programs or look to expand existing ones that have not been central to marketing efforts.

GPS by TeleNav: A map app? You got it. Star and her husband love using the TeleNav GPS app for Droid to get them from Point A to Point B. So whether you’re navigating Atlanta or a faraway city, this app will get you where you’re going.

iDraw: If you’re feeling artsy, check out this vector drawing app. With all the bells and whistles of a good illustration program, this is one of Charles’ favorites. Plus, it’s easy to use and has a ton of tools.

Skyscanner: This is another great app for the summer traveler and comes highly recommended by Rory. Skyscanner operates independently of all airlines, allowing you to browse millions of flights on more than 1,000 airlines to find the cheapest places and dates to fly.

TechCrunch – The Inside Story: If you’re like Sami and want the hottest technology news sent straight to your iPad, this is the app for you. Browse the latest headlines with a flick of your finger then tap to dive into an unparalleled source of stories about startups and Silicon Valley, gadgets and go-getters.

Nike BOOM: Meredith uses this app for a customized workout set to her top tunes. Just choose your type of workout, length of training, and favorite music – and you’re ready to work up a sweat. Afterward, you can reward yourself with some pool time.

MyRadar: If you want to steer clear of a summer storm, take a cue from Heather at Stonesoft and download this app. It displays animated weather radar around your current location, allowing you to quickly see what weather is coming your way. Only sunny skies for this forecast! This is an ambitious project to map all automatic electronic defibrillators (AEDs) in the U.S. so smartphone users can quickly and easily locate one of these lifesaving machines. The first six minutes after someone has been hit with cardiac arrest are essential so help the cause by tracking AEDs. Take Jackie’s recommendation, and download the app today.

Spotify, Shazam, Pandora, Soundtracking and iHeartRadio: All five music apps are so popular among Arketians that we couldn’t pick just one! Whether you’re lounging poolside or sitting at your desk, a summer-themed playlist will have you singing along to “Margaritaville” in no time.
